OM SYSTEM OM-1 MarkII - I was asked to comment!
I agree with you. I enjoy photography so much more while travelling. And yes, I concentrate much more on image quality during travel because I may never go there again, whereas at home I can always return to try again. And last but not least, travel broadens your mind.
Ms have a fine translator app for the phone. You speak your language, it translate and speak in the foreign language.
No more om-5 with 20mm f1.4? 😳
You should try 8mm f1.8 again, for street in Helsinki 😊 but defish isn't allowed 😉
In mny ways photographyin ne locatiiobs can be more intrmsreseetung nd skoll developibf for reasobmns you mentiied. But local place coyld be paet mmrt of a photography project. Picurtes of the same squarein a city throufg out the say. Or how about a place in nearby nature the changes with the seasobs say ..
Going to different places is good for everything, your photography and in order to get a more open mind.
Thanks for the video, one of the best I've found about this. I have an OMD EM1X, is the wireless tether compatible? I have following the USB set up, all works fine. But when I try wireless, with the camera on the same wife network as the computer, OM Capture keeps asking me to connect via USB.
Peter - thank you for this video. Travel always broadens the mind and it is also true for photography !! I think it brings new ideas/ scenes / environmental opportunities .Some how I always take more photographs when traveling and then have to be firm with the delete button to sift through them. I sense that you really enjoyed your trip to France and it came through with this video !!
Thanks. I did enjoy my trip very much! It is a great area.
Thanks, Peter. I agree. A change of scenery helps my creativity. On a weekend visit to a large city recently I took only my OMSystem OM-5 and m.zuiko 12-45 pro zoom. It all fits easily in a small shoulder bag and is light to carry with a wrist strap. Ideal set up for me. Waterproofing helped in the light rain, too 😊
Waterproofing helps a lot. Rainy weather is a good weather to photograph.
I need to go to some new places because I feel I'm stagnating going to the same places.
I always bring only one lens traveling, this time the 23mm f2 on my fujifilm. I like to only have one lens restrict myself and use my creativity. This time I’m in Paris. So much to see. Like you said; it can be overwhelming. Good video. Like your analytical mindset.
Totally agree! Enjoy your trip!
I'd love to travel far more, as in the past I have enjoyed foreign travel but now I can't afford to travel far so I visit places closer to my home and experiment with different techniques, objects, and scenes that I've noticed.
As I said in the video, the visit can be close. It does not have to be far away. Just a short commute to a neighboring city is enough.
its healthy to have a change of scene so, when i can, i visit outside town for a while. and its strange because my photographic creativity becomes more open. yesterday the weather was perfect, so i made use of it and visited a parish or village, and the afternoon light made it way easier for me. i used my GH5ii and 14-140mm the entire time, but i will use the canon r7 more once i have an adequate superzoom or zoom lens for it.
Thank you for sharing.
Tried it on OM-D E-M1 mk1 and it didn't work. 🥺Now I have changed a lot and don't remember how I had it before.
Sorry to hear. What did not work?
As I became more drawn towards street and travel photography, I sold my Lumix G9 and now mostly use the smaller and lighter GX9 for street photography (I find the tilting screen very helpful), and the OM Systems OM5 for travel, mainly because it's small, lightweight and weather sealed. In wet weather I'll also use the OM5 for street photography. Regarding lenses I like the Panasonic Leica 12mm f1.4 or 15mm F1.7 primes, and for travel I'll take along either the Panasonic Leica 12-60mm f2.8-4.0 or the Oly 12-45mm F4 with the 15mm prime. I'm all for small, lightweight kit, and am happy with micro four thirds for my purposes, although the new Leica due to be launched in July looks interesting!!
Thanks for sharing.
I travel a lot with my wife and the problem photography-wise then is often the fact that you end up doing the 'run and gun' kind of shooting, trying to keep up with your wife 😂, instead of stopping to think first. But it is certainly always good to see new places also from photography pov, and I agree with the points you mention.
I know what you mean by keeping up...
Nice job, a very good set of travel tips. As you suggest, many of us do the best we can to capture good images of places, events and loved ones when traveling. If we occasionally get a photo that’s worthy of printing and hanging on the wall, that’s fine but it’s recording the memories that’s our goal. Skill in using our cameras, careful composition and technique are just as satisfying whatever the aim. Thank you.😮
Thanks Peter very informative.
Thsnks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Peter I was recently in Chicago I would walk around the city and photograph anything of interest I hit the usual tourist spots as well the city it self away from the tourist spots. I brought one camera and two lenses a 16- 50 2.8 and a 55-300 4.5 - 6.3 which covered all the focal lengths I needed the 16-50 spent most of the time on the camera
Thanks for sharing. Chicago is a nice city. Been there twice. I especially like the river and the scenery from it.
@@ForsgardPeter I did a photo riverwalk as well as a boat tour when I was in Chicago my daughter works for BP in Chicago she is a Atmospheric Chemist her specialty is Hydrogen and frequently travels for various conferences around the country I met her in Denver last June i drove from California to Denver visiting the Grannd Canyon by train from William's Arizona and Arches National Park on the trip . She attended a conference in New Orleans last December and I met her there it gives me the opportunity to photograph these differnt cities
the description was combined with nice photos. the photos were combined with a nice atmosphere
Thanks.
Thanks very much, from Málaga, Spain.
What great tips! I normally don't like photographing people on the street because I'm kinda shy to get close but I am finding it to be essential to convey the proper story in my images
Thanks. Glad it was helpful!
Hello from New York City! Please help me understand. What is the difference between contrast and dynamic range? Thank you for your informative video
Contrast is the diffenrence between the lightest part and the darkest part in a scene or photograph. Dynamic range is the amount of contrast the sensor can capture.

Thanks. My pleasure!
I am trying to decide as a beginner if the OM5 is what I want. Or should I go for the gusto and get the OM1? Like I said I’m a beginner! No real camera experience but I want something for birding! ❤
For birding OM-1 is a better choice. What lenses are you considering?
@@ForsgardPeter just a basic one to start. M. Zuiko f4? 75-300mm. I’m on a retirement budget- and will need a “camera for dummies” book! Thanks for getting back to me! I know that OM1 has the bird finder- is this camera more complicated than the OM5?
Hello! Thanks for the helpful video! One question as I just received a GR3X today. In my AF settings, I do not have "Zone Select AF" as an option, any ideas on why?
You need to update the firmware. Zone Select AF was added recently.
I have some old 120mm negatives can I use this for them or it’s just build for 35mm?
Indoor sport with f8.0 ???? I wish you all the luck! Did you manage it already?
But photographs are below average & lifeless
You mean in general? I think it is a matter of taste. Minimalistic images can give a clam and relaxed feeling.
@@ForsgardPeter You need a trained eye to be able to appreciate these photographs. I am a graphic designer; I love the style and the composition. Great tips.
Thanks for the tips Peter. I never thought about the minimalistic approach and will definitely try some of the tips.
The video is also great, I like the editing and your voice
Glad I can help and inspire.
Thanks for the comment about the quality of the video.
I like street photography very much, and your video is a good lesson for me to improve my skills. Thank you for sharing.
Why couldn't i just use a cheap telescope red dot finderscope ?
Thank you for your video. What was the rail system you used?
It was some generic NATO-rail that I had.
Is there a way to turn off the noise reduction inside of live comp ???? My noise reduction is off , i used live comp to do fireworks- works great - except the noise reduction after live comp slows down shooting of more fireworks !!! And yes my canera - OM-1 , is up to date on firmware . THX FOR ANY IDEAS , SUGGESTIONS…. ETC . This noise reduction after each live composite has baffled me - i cannot seem to turn it off … IS THIS NORMAL ???? Thx
If I remember correctly it is unfortunately not possible.
@@ForsgardPeter Ok thx
I assumed this video was going to be about generative AI. Authenticity will probably become important in a world of AI click bait. easier said than done though
Beautiful feathered bokeh on display!
Thank you! Cheers!
We’re so lucky as a photography community that we can rely on your channel, consistently sincere. And this video has a particular relevance currently, thanks, very helpful. More on DXO would be good, if you’re comfortable exploring the software further. Your opinion is respected.
Wow, thank you!
What is a nice travel camera (system) not from Olympus per se with auto focus bracketing too ! The big disadvantage of Olympus which HAS to support to auto focus bracketing / stacking which are REALLY expensive and quite rare to find.
And thanks for this informartive video ! From a Nikon DSLR fan ;-) (but without auto stacking) 😞 - Subbed!
I have just bought a used 1.8 for 103€. Sharpness is excellent even wide open. It is visible that even 14 year old girls like my daughter do not have perfectly smooth skin.
To me, the 12-100mm has the edge over the 12-40mm because of its sync IS which makes it possible to take sharp images at shutter speeds longer than 1sec. And the extra reach is a bonus!
What lens do you recommend the 12-45 or 14-150 for the OM5? Like the size of the 12-45 but afraid I’ll miss out. Plan on taking outdoor, landscape and street photos.
Both lenses are good choice. For general travel and all aroind photography I mioght go woth the 14-150mm. As you said 12-45mm is smaller and it is bettre for street photography.
Still cant get why the heck they have changed this legendary olympus brand name. Olympus = photography.
There was no choice. They had to do it after the Imaging Business was sold.
This video is 3 years old but still relavent to me because I recently bought both of these cameras. I got two bodies because when I am working, I usually carry two bodies with different lenses mounted. I really like the EM1X. Even if I move on from M4/3 for work, the EM1X would be a keeper just for fun shooting. But results have been very good, so far. However, even though the EM1.3 is a good tool, I just cannot warm up to it.
Shoes! I don't find them often, but they're such a question-raising subject. I have a "project" that I call "Cinderella" where I photograph lost shoes. Obviously, that happens rarely so the progress on the project is slow, but they're some of my favourite images. I also think that film photography lends itself to starting 36-image mini projects. Load a roll of film, think of a theme and shoot your 36 images. When you store negatives in a negative sleeve, it usually has a few fields you can fill in: roll number, camera, theme. My theme is usually an activity or a place - the city I visit, walks with my daughter etc. It can be more specific too, like doors, cars, trees. The plan for my next roll is "hands". A market should be a great place to start...
